Counter-terrorism training initiative for businesses has now

A counter-terrorism training
initiative which assists businesses in preventing, handling and recovering
from a terrorist attack, has reached a milestone as more than 1,000 people
have now attended the course run by City of London Police.
Project ARGUS, is a National
Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) initiative,
which explores ways to aid businesses in preventing, handling and recovering
from a terrorist attack. ARGUS, or Area Reinforcement Gained Using
Scenarios, aims to raise awareness of counter-terrorism issues and make the
business community more resilient.
The initiative, which is free
of charge, takes delegates through a multi-media simulation of a series of
terrorist attacks in a crowded place, highlighting the importance of having
the necessary plans in place to help safeguard staff, customers and company
assets. It also emphasizes the need to practice those plans regularly.
ARGUS explores the peoples options and reactions following an attack and
considers what the initial priorities should be, before moving on to consider
issues around business continuity and, finally, how businesses can help
prevent future attacks. During the day delegates also receive valuable
information and advice from the City of London, London Ambulance Service and
London Fire Brigade who form an expert panel alongside City Police.
Ch. Insp. Kevan
McCrone, head of the City of London Police
counter-terrorism section who facilitate the initiative, said:
“This is a great
milestone for us, the scheme has proved a big hit
with delegates and continues to go from strength to strength.”
“It’s vital that
businesses of all sizes consider how they will deal with the disruption
caused by a major crisis, emergency or incident. Through ARGUS
we’re able to communicate valuable counter-terrorism messages to City organisations and help them to develop closer links with
us and the other emergency services.”
