What are apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are a blend of practical experience and attending a college or training centre to be taught the key skills and technical knowledge. The apprenticeship frameworks explain in details what qualifications and training an apprentice needs to complete in order to achieve the apprenticeship completion certificate.
The programmme is made up of the following sections:
- Competence qualification - apprentice works towards this qualification at work
- Knowledge qualification - gained through a college or training provider to help apprentice understand the skills and knowledge he/she needs to get ahead in the profession
- Transferable skills - these qualifications enable apprentices to gain vital skills that they need in employment
- Employment Rights and Responsibilities - these are sector specific guidance on how to understand and assert your employment rights and responsibilities
- On and Off job guided learning - this element specifies how many hours need to be spent at workplace and at college to help an apprentice in achieving the framework
- Personal learning and thinking skills - apprentice's skills, such as creative thinking, reflective learning, team working, and self management will need to be demonstrated and assessed. This is done through naturally occurring situations while working towards the competence qualification.
Skills for Security as a sector skills organisation has developed Security Apprenticeship Frameworks in the following sub-sectors:
- Providing Security Services
This programme is an ideal way to progress a career within the security services sector. The framework outlines possible progression routes into and from the Apprenticeship, and gives an apprentice necessary skills and knowledge to work in the industry. The framework applies to Door supervisors, CCTV operators, and Security officers.
- Security Systems
This apprenticeship is aimed at those who wish to learn how to install and maintain fire or security alarm systems, CCTV equipment, or access control systems, and is available at Level 2 with a progression to Level 3. Apprentices enrolled on the programme will become trainees as security systems installation engineers, security systems maintenance engineers, or both.
Skills for Security offers you apprenticeship programmes in the security systems sector. We can make arrangements with the college and deal with the administration of the scheme, so you are free to manage your business.
Employers may choose to register to become a centre offering apprenticeships in their own right if they are able to meet the registration requirements and have the relevant qualified staff, or work with a training provider who is already registered to offer the Apprenticeship framework.
