What is an NVQ?
A security systems NVQ is a nationally recognised qualification that demonstrates that the holder has both occupational knowledge and practical ability that meets the agreed national standard of competency.
The qualification is achieved by learning and demonstrating in the workplace the skills and knowledge associated with the installation and maintenance of security and emergency systems. The qualification is divided into a number of units, each based on the National Occupational Standards for the Systems sector.
Why should employers consider NVQs for their employees
As the systems industry becomes more and more complex the need to attract and retain highly skilled engineers grows. Employment which offers the opportunity to gain national qualifications is more attractive to recruits, and provides recognition of ability for existing employees. A qualified workforce also provides employers with a competitive advantage.
The qualification does not involve time consuming and costly periods of study away from work as assessment takes place in the workplace.
What's more, generous funding is available.
Who is eligible for a funded NVQ?
People who meet the following criteria:-
- Aged over 19
- With a National Insurance number
- Employed, with a contract of employment
- Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
- Do not already hold a Level 2 or higher qualification
What's involved?
The employer must provide the opportunity for the candidate to practice the necessary skills and demonstrate their competency to an assessor as required.
Companies registering candidates through Skills for Security are freed from the administration processes around both the funding and the qualification, as we will carry out these functions on their behalf.
Who pays?
The employer pays normal wage costs but the funding is available. If you are interested in the NVQ for the Security Systems Sector, please contact our Customer Relations team on 0845 075 0111 or email info@skillsforsecurity.org.uk.
