Course Accreditation

What is course accreditation?

The course accreditation service has been introduced to offer people in the security business sector access to unparalleled expertise and specialist knowledge through training courses that have been approved by their sector skills body, so they can be confident in the quality of the course they are considering. The service has been primarily developed for training courses that DO NOT result in a formal qualification.

In order for your course to be accredited the content is mapped against relevant National Occupational Standards.  We assess the educational qualifications and subject knowledge of the trainers together with the suitability of the training materials. After this rigorous process the final decision on accreditation is reached by the Skills for Security Executive Management Team.

We currently accredit over 25 courses ranging from Security & Risk Management to CCTV installation. Details of all Skills for Security accredited programmes can be found on our website.

How does it work?

To gain accreditation for your course(s) you will have to satisfy Skills for Security that:

  • Course materials are accurate and complete in terms of technical content and quality of presentation, and are mapped against the relevant National Occupational Standards
  • Trainers are qualified to deliver the course both in terms of their teaching skills, technical expertise and sector competence
  • Facilities, such as training rooms, presentational equipment and training aids are appropriate for the course being delivered
  • Suitable administration procedures exist to support the course provision. These could include candidate briefings
    and joining instructions
  • Providers must allow access to premises, course materials and administrative documentation to Skills
for Security in order that effective monitoring can be carried out
  • The provider has a Health & Safety policy, an equal opportunities policy and public/employer liability insurance
