Skills for Security have teamed up with conflict management specialists Maybo, and the awarding body BIIAB, to provide a high quality, legally and medically reviewed, physical intervention trainer programme.

Who is the programme designed for?

The course is designed to equip qualified trainers to deliver physical intervention training, either internally to their own staff or as a public training course. Trainers attending this course must hold a minimum Level 3 teaching qualification and a Level 3 Conflict Management qualification. Training centres must be approved to deliver physical intervention training before nominating a trainer to attend this programme. Centre approval applications forms can be downloaded here.

What does the programme cover?

This is a five day course that incorporates disengagement skills (non-restrictive physical interventions) and holding skills (restrictive physical interventions).

This programme is designed in two phases;

1) Phase 1 consists of approximately 5 hours of distance learning

2) Phase 2 consists of a 5 day workshop

What are the benefits of the programme?

You will be qualified to train others in how to assess situations to decide whether physical intervention is necessary and, if so, the appropriate methods of intervention. Successful delegates will be certificated by Skills for Security and the Approved Centre will be licensed by Maybo SAFERwork Physical Intervention Trainer programme.

Once licensed, the Approved Centre acquires delegate registrations from Maybo. Registration includes delegate workbooks, a training record card, the registration fee and a joint certification by BIIAB and Skills for Security.
