City & Guilds PTLLS 6302 (formerly 7303) course structure

During this course delegates will cover all aspects of the learning outcomes, including delivery of two micro-teach sessions, preceded and followed by self directed learning with e-mail tutor support.

Section 1: Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role to other professionals

Section 2: Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches in lifelong learning

Section 3: Plan and deliver an inclusive learning and teaching session and evaluate own delivery practice

Section 4: Understand methods of assessment used in lifelong learning, involve learners in the assessment process and record keeping requirements

Phase one of the course involves the delegates completing tasks in a course handbook and recommended readings. Delegates will be required to complete all tasks in phase one before attending phase two. This should take a minimum of 20 hours.

Phase two consists of three days training which will cover the above aspects and theories. Delegates will be required to construct session plans and deliver two 15 minute Micro teaches to the group. It is important for learners to arrive at the course with a sound idea of the subject they wish to teach and any props required. Flipcharts and an LCD Projector are available for presentations throughout phase two. Delegates are requested to provide their own laptop computers and any other props they may need for their Micro Teaches

Phase three is self-directed learning with email tutor support. Delegates will be required to complete a portfolio, which includes the theory assignments, learning journal and summative profile. There is no time limit on the self directed learning but it is in the interest of the delegate to complete phase three as soon as possible after phase two so that the theory is still fresh in their minds. The tutor is there to support delegates during all phases. Should any additional work be required, the course tutor will provide delegates with an action plan via email. This should take a minimum of 20 hours.

Assessment

Delegates will be required to complete theory and practical assignments covering all areas of the learning outcomes.

Certification

Successful delegates will be awarded the City & Guilds 6302 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
