What does the programme cover?
The three day programme consists of three key phases:
1. Distance learning phase, where trainers are sent a disc, website links and delegate workbook containing study material to help build as great a knowledge as possible on the subject matter prior to course attendance. Trainers will complete a pre-course test on arrival on the content of the delegate workbook.
2. One day course where trainers will complete the Counter Terrorism Awareness programme covering:
- The definition of the term 'Terrorism' and 'Terrorist'
- The history of terrorism and its affects
- What is an Improvised Explosive Device
- The different types of explosive devices and methods that terrorists employ
- Counter terror organisations
- Contingency and emergency planning
- Threat assessment and management
- Risk reduction measures to reduce the threat faced
- The importance of incident management planning
- Post attack or incident considerations
- Security planning
3. Two day teaching workshop to develop the trainer's knowledge of the subject material and delivery of the key learning techniques. This includes:
- Assessment techniques
- Core Learning activities
- Micro teach sessions - 2 teaching sessions on day 2 and day 3
What are the benefits of this programme?
Trainers will develop their understanding of the subject material ready to deliver their own programmes. After successful completion of the programme trainers will be able to deliver both a 6 hour counter terrorism awareness programme and a 2 hour programme designed to support the new door supervisor training, in accordance with the licensing agreement. In addition, a BTEC Level 2 award in Counter Terrorism can be delivered by accredited trainers.
Accredited trainers will be required to attend a 1 day re-certification programme every 2 years to ensure their knowledge is current.
