Release date: 3rd April 2008
Following negotiations with the Learning & Skills Council (LSC) and with strong support from the two leading industry associations, the BSIA and FIA, to confirm employer commitment to skills development, Skills for Security is now able to offer a new, cost-free service for employers wishing to up-skill their workforce through the NVQ process.
Security and fire systems installation companies who register candidates for the Systems NVQ Level 2 qualification through Skills for Security will benefit from LSC funding that will cover the costs of registration, workbooks, assessment, verification and certification. In addition, Skills for Security will take care of the administration processes connected with both the NVQ itself and the application for funding – there will be no cost to the employer and no burden of administering the scheme. The same arrangement is available to employers wishing to offer the Level 3 NVQ, except that they must make a contribution of £692.00* per candidate towards costs.
David Greer, Chief Executive of Skills for Security, commented "This is an exciting development for the Systems sector. We are pleased to have used our influence as the skills and standards setting body for the industry to secure this funding for Systems companies, and to make available our own infrastructure to remove the burden of administration from employers. This assistance means that Systems companies should now be encouraging their employees to obtain national vocational qualifications that will recognise their own skills and enhance the quality of service provided to customers."
Employers wishing to take advantage of this opportunity should contact info@skillsforsecurity.org.uk or telephone 08450 750111.
