Worcester based Skills for Security have chosen to support and help raise funds for St Richard's hospice during 2008. An initial contribution of £1,000 has been made to the hospice.
Skills for Security employs around fifty people at its offices in Barbourne Road, from where it provides the security industry with occupational standards, training resources and advice on skills development and qualifications. David Greer, Chief Executive, explained "The Worcester area provides us with an excellent workforce, and we felt that we wanted to demonstrate our gratitude to the city in a tangible way. When we asked our staff how we could do this they voted overwhelmingly to support the invaluable service that St Richard's hospice provides to the local community."
Tricia Cavell, Fundraising Manager, added, "We are delighted with this donation from Skills for Security and look forward to working with them over the coming year."
St Richard's hospice contains an In-patient Unit, Day Hospice, Home Care Team, Counselling and Bereavement support, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Complementary Therapies, Hospice at Home, Snowdrop Group, Chaplaincy, 24 hour telephone support helpline and the Education & Resource Centre.
All the services are free and each year St Richard's cares for in the region of 1,700 patients and families. The hospice needs to raise £3.2m this year to provide the ongoing specialist care and support for patients and families.
