Release date: 2nd April 2008
Skills for Security, the Worcester based Skills and Standards Setting Body for the security business sector, has pledged to support the County Air Ambulance Trust throughout 2008. An initial donation of £1,000 was made to the Air Ambulance with plans of further fund-raising throughout the year.
There can be no doubt that after an accident or the onset of a serious illness the sooner expert medical attention can be given to the patient the better chance there is of saving life and ensuring a long-term outlook. The County Air Ambulance has been established since 1991 and since its introduction 26,234 missions have been completed. Its ability to provide skilled treatment and fast transport saves an average of one life every three weeks.
David Greer, Chief Executive of Skills for Security comments, "The County Air Ambulance Trust is such a worthwhile charity. It is incredible that only three helicopters provide prompt and specialised medical treatment and care to an area of 8,000 sq miles and a population of over 7.8 million. The Air Ambulance continually saves lives and they rely solely on donations, as they don't receive any financial support from the government or the national lottery. We are pleased that we can support them in this way."
Keith Hodson, Administrator for the County Air Ambulance Trust comments, "For serious accidents or medical emergencies the air ambulance is crucial and every month the service saves lives that might not have been saved had other means been employed. Hundreds of other patients enjoy enhanced recovery times because of skilled treatment and rapid transfers to specialist medical help that is provided by the air ambulance team. The current cost of operating each Air Ambulance aircraft equates to £1 million per annum, we are very grateful for the support from people and organisations like Skills for Security, as otherwise this unique, life-saving emergency service would not exist."
