Skills for Security announces new appointment

Release date: 2nd January 2008

Skills for Security has today announced the appointment of Bob Doyle to the position of Director of Commercial Services, with responsibility for promoting the private security industry and the important part that high quality, well trained staff play in building its reputation for excellent services.

Bob has spent his entire career in the private security industry and has planned and managed high profile security operations at political, governmental and commercial events. Requiring the highest standards of competency from security staff, these operations demonstrated the wide range of skills and specialist knowledge that the sector has to offer, and it was the experience of working in partnership at these and similar events that led the police service to acknowledge our place in the wider policing family.

For the past two years Bob has been managing a UK wide network of employer consultation groups which advise Skills for Security on the skills development and qualification needs of the various sectors that make up the security community. This exposure to the diversity of security specialisms, together with his personal experience, will be critical in informing the development of qualifications and training solutions that will help employers meet the challenges of rising client expectations and the opportunities afforded by the 2012 Olympic Games and 2014 Commonwealth Games.

David Greer, Chief Executive of Skills for Security commented "I am delighted that Bob accepted the job and the challenge. Adding his knowledge and experience to the team will ensure that our deserved reputation for listening to the industry and delivering products and services that our employers need will be enhanced. Bob's new role is all about communication: we have a good story to tell the industry about the work we are doing on their behalf and the resources available to them through Skills for Security, but we have not always made best use of the opportunities to spread the word. Similarly, we have a role to play in promoting to a wider audience the range of careers, skills and services available in the security industry. With a background that encompasses both operational and business development experience, Bob's appointment signals a new pro-active approach to marketing both the skills body itself and the sector we serve and represent."

Bob's previous responsibilities in employer engagement across all security sectors and all four countries of the UK will be taken forward by Treena Moseley, who has been promoted to National Liaison Manager. David Greer added "We are always encouraging employers to develop career pathways: these two promotions demonstrate that we practice what we preach!"
